An 11 year old Narrator and her stepdad's animation (an award winning duo) present a fast paced series of events and misconceptions that lead to the deliberate eradication of the American Red Wolf. It also highlights the negative fallout caused by their absence in the ecosystem. An elementary school theme is set by chalkboard animation and the concept of the wolf being punished in "time out" as a way to describe sanctuaries. While the details focus on the Red Wolf, the overall message is that we humans have a habit of removing inconvenient members of the environment and would benefit from learning from our mistakes.
Filmmaker Calliope Mary ( 11 years old at time of filming) and Dave Russo (step dad and professional artist) started making animated shorts as a way to get through the pandemic. Calliope was 7 when their first movie won awards at several international Film Festivals. They start with her energetic narration and then fit the animation around it, often including unintended bits caught in the audio. As a family living in a rural town just outside a very politically active region, there is no shortage of inspiration for topics of their films. As Calliope ages, she becomes more responsible for the plots and scripts.
