Planet Bonehead - Episode 5: Mission: Recyclable
28m
Bonehead’s mountain climbing vacation is cut short after a mole in JP Rothbone’s organization informs HOPE Headquarters of his next nefarious plot. It seems revenues at JP’s landfill are down ever since the local recycling center opened next door. People are recycling all their paper, plastic, metal and glass instead of throwing it in the garbage. Bonehead and his smart team swing into action on a nearly impossible mission: stop JP & his sniveling cronies before they are able to sabotage the recycling machines and detour all that recycling back to the landfill. The educational documentary portion of this episode discusses the importance of recycling and explores several aspects of recycling. By comparing human activity to that of animals in nature, as well as the planet itself, students understand how people need to do their part to maintain our healthy ecosystems. Students also learn all the different materials that can be recycled - it's not just tin cans and cardboard. And finally, students learn the different ways they can recycle material: by reducing their use of the material in the first place; by reusing some things they may already have; and by disposing of recyclable materials correctly. In this educational documentary segment, the Announcer takes us on a behind-the-scenes tour of a real-life recycling center at Charleston County Solid Waste in South Carolina. Students see the comingled material enter the facility, and follow along as the different materials – plastic, metal, aluminum, glass, paper and cardboard – are first separated, and then bundled. Kids have the power to recycle at home and at school! In this upbeat song, Bonehead teaches kids how they can recycle by sending recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, aluminum, glass and plastic to the recycling center instead of the landfill.
