Hot Poet: Zena Edwards
Matched with: The Word Forest Organisation
Poem Focus: Empowering women in Kenya to grow trees on the equator.
The Word Forest Organisation is a young charity founded by passionate environmentalists based in the South West. They plant trees, build schools, facilitate education and support women’s empowerment in rural Kenya. Trees planted in the tropics grow up to ten times faster than anywhere else on the planet, making them absolute beasts for mitigating many of the problems the world is facing, several of which align directly with UN SDGs. Other than the building, they do much the same in the UK, but on a smaller scale. Word Forest is tackling our existential crisis head on by applying a humanitarian approach and supporting the amazing people who live on the frontline of climate change in a variety of ways.
